More mp3 time travels, as we continue with the John & Butch series:
Butch: Phil Ochs - Joe Hill (live in Montreal) — I was going to continue the Pinochet-is-a-murdering-thug theme from last week by featuring a couple of songs by Victor Jara. But then I went to see the movie SLC Punk over the weekend. [...]

Week 4 de los Wayback Machine:
John: Throwing Muses - An Intimate Conversation. Over the weekend, I got out my little turntable and some records that haven’t been played in awhile, and attempted to digitize some stuff for you, the hypothetical reader/listener.
This is a silly little spoken word piece from what used to be my favorite [...]

Week 3:
Butch: The What-Nots - You Play Glockenspiel, I’ll Play Drums — This week’s song is a cover of The Beautiful South’s “You Play Glockenspiel, I’ll Play Drums” by Santa Cruz, California band The What-Nots.
The Beautiful South have covered songs by lots of different artists since 1990, but this may be the first cover of [...]

Wayback Machine week 2
John: Elliott Smith - Angeles. Again, not sure what I had to say about this. As I think back now to that time, I think of Peladromey the elliottvangelist, throwing all the albums at me to see what would stick. “Angeles” and “Waltz #2″ are what stuck. Not long after, [...]

If you go to the Wayback Machine — specifically here — around the years of 1999 - 2001, you’ll see that my pal and I hosted what would now be known as an mp3 blog. Yeah, we coded it all by hand almost every week, so it wasn’t a real blog, but the idea was [...]

Just saw this posted on Music For Robots — Malcolm Middleton is releasing a second album titled “Into The Woods” in June (as of right now it will be import only in the U.S.).
I discovered Malcolm’s first album (”5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine”) a little over a year ago, and have been featuring tracks [...]

Erin McKeown is in Alaska for a string of dates; she spoke to the Anchorage Daily News about the iPod’s popularity being indicative of people’s complex musical tastes (among other things).

Easytree shut itself down a few days ago due to some inquiries from lawyers. It seems to have risen from the ashes as http://dimeadozen.org.
Lots of great live music there. If anyone has the “Joanna Newsom Lossy Care Package” torrent (left over from easytree’s last weeks), please reseed!

Looks like a few of the Decemberists‘ stolen instruments were recovered from a meth lab yesterday, including Nate’s upright bass, and new drummer John’s custom drum kit.
The band is, of course, out on a whirlwind tour, but sometime-band-spokesperson Carson Ellis went down there to identify stuff and talk to cops and hazmat folks:
They are [...]
