What a way to start the year 2006: Colin Meloy playing a solo gig January 19th at the Aladdin Theater here in Portland, OR.

And just as you’re about to walk away with a big cheezy grin on your face, I tell you that “hot in the blogosphere” Laura Veirs has been announced as the opener. Damn sweet damn!

There’s also rumor regarding another tour-only Colin Covers EP (Last year’s Morrissey EP was genius — I’ve always wanted someone to do acoustic covers of Smiths/Moz and do it well). Anyhow, I’m putting money down on Robyn Hitchcock to win, but really I’ll take anything. Say what you will about The Decemberists, but Colin Meloy has great taste in music.
