Mashups Of The Year

My posts last week and this week are still focused on orphaned songs — the ones that are sitting in a folder marked “STRAY” instead of in an album folder with their kinfolk.Today its my favorite songs of bastard pop!! I listened to a ton of mashups this year, and these are the ones that I came back to time and time again. Brought to you by our good friends at GYBO. Everything I need to know about mashups I learned over at GYBO. I wish you could hear my 4-year old daughter telling me to “get my bootleg on”. She knows how I feel about the mashups!!

1. Go Home Productions - Uptight Killers - This is the only way I can stomach the famous Killers song now — in a chaser mixed with Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and a little closing gimmick reminiscent of a song on Bjork’s “Debut”. There’s plenty more aural peanut butter cups at Go Home Production’s website.

2. Team9 - Screaming Pro - They say that a good mashup transcends the original songs that comprise it, and I agree. Beck’s “E-Pro” single was empty calories on its own, but bring in Jacko & Janet and garnish with an AC/DC riff, and the result is delectable.

Honorable mention goes to another Team9 creation: “Doorbell Encore“, which combines White Stripes with Jay-Z. Team9 has many more files of brilliance at his website.

Before I let you go, can I interest you in some photographs of underwater babies? It is the cuteness!
