Whilst on my internet travels this week, I chanced upon mp3’s of the new Joanna Newsom EP.
So I downloaded them onto my computer. From my computer, I put them onto my iPod. I’ve been listening to the tracks and enjoying them immensely, especially the new song “Colleen”.
So today when I’m at my local rekkid store (Everyday Music if you must know), I decide to do the right thing by Ms. Newsom and buy a physical copy of the EP. I look at the price sticker and audibly gasp.
$12.99. $12.99, for 3 songs!
Now I know that Joanna Newsom is a wunderkind who is enjoying her day in the sun, but let us not forget that she is human. Her droppings doth stinketh, just like everyone else’s. She puts her elfin costumes on one leg at a time, like all the rest of us (not that I have an elfin costume — I swear). Anyway, my point is that each of these songs on the new Ys Street Band EP are not worth $4 apiece. They’re good, but not THAT good, ya know??
Update: I just checked the iTunes music store, and you can buy the EP for a much more reasonable $3.99. Of course, you must deal with DRM there. Maybe you just want to find the free ones.
