While You Were Sleeping…

lucha libre on the steel bridge

- Jill Sobule released her new single “San Francisco” for free on new and professional site mydamnchannel.com. It is “backed” with a sparse version of old campfire favorite “Mom”, and did I mention it is free?? Jill mentions on her blog that she has never made a penny off her major label CD’s, so why not? Get the songs and watch the accompanying video right here. (Question to self: how come Jill hasn’t been signed to Yep Roc?)

- Dan Bern quietly added new dates to his tour schedule - August 17, 18, & 19 - three nights in his hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

- Two die-hard Regina Spektor fans have created a new website featuring some amazing demos, unreleased studio cuts, and live shows.

- I read my first discography blog today, this one concerning Robyn Hitchcock. It’s called I Got A Message For You, and it’s a fun read. Unfortunately the author has sprained his wrist, so it’ll be awhile before we get to read about our favorite Robynsongs.

- One of Laura Veirs‘ most beautiful songs — “Nightingale” — has been playing on an seemingly endless loop inside my head for the last 4 days. I finally purged it today by hunting it down in my iTunes and playing it very loud. I would’ve sung along for maximum effect, but I was at work.

Update: Just realized that I can embed Jill’s “San Francisco” video, so I will:
