New Dan Bern Albums At The iTunes Music Store

“Divine And Conquer” is a 1995 album that was circulated by Sony/WORK as a promotional item. I remember people spotting a few copies here and there in record stores. Needless to say, it was pretty rare - until now! The album features one of my favorite songs from Dan: “One More Light”. I’m sure better versions of this have been recorded, but this is the only one that you can buy officially.
“Macaroni Cola” looks like a compilation to me of unreleased stuff circa 1991-2002. If you’ve been downloading the free offerings from Dan’s MySpace page this year, you’ll notice alot of those songs on this comp. If you’ve missed a few downloads, you owe it to yourself to check this comp out. Songs like “Jim Rome”, “Smart And Final”, “Licorice” and “Witness” are rockin’ and were much loved by the fans when they debuted and then forgotten to make room for the new stuff.
Methinks there’s more stuff coming, too: I noticed that there’s artwork up on MySpace for “The Burbank Tapes” - an amazing full album recorded in 1998 and then scrapped in favor of “Fifty Eggs”. It is the rawest best thing that Dan and band have ever done.
I’m not a huge fan of iTunes Music Store, and tend to only go there for material that I can’t get elsewhere. These new old releases from Dan are just such items.
