Nice to hear from The Decemberists! This fall they cancelled both a European tour and a stateside tour, citing illness. And then they kind of went dark. Chris and Nate have popped up on the message board from time to time to make small announcements, but for the most part the D’s camp went silent. Until yesterday, that is, when they announced four upcoming Pacific Northwest shows:

January 22 — Crystal Ballroom, Portland, OR
January 23 — Crystal Ballroom, Portland, OR
January 30 — Moore Theater, Seattle, WA
January 31 — Moore Theater, Seattle, WA

No word if these shows will be “themed” or not. Or if Portland will get that “Fan’s Request Show” that they were promised. The shows will be “neither longs nor shorts, just good ‘ole fashioned Decemberists shows.”

A limited number of pre-sale tickets will be available from The D’s MusicToday website beginning at 12 noon TODAY. Today as in Friday, December 14th.

Some bad news: Laura Veirs won’t be opening these dates (she was to have been the opener on last fall’s US tour). Some good news: A different opening band at each show!
