As mayor of mixmeamolotov.com, I’m declaring that today is officially Bernstein Day! Go out and celebrate: take the day off from work and go do something you’ve never done before. Ride your bike to a neighboring state, make a movie, write a song, do some fingerpainting, learn to play backgammon. And don’t fear the haters [...]

I hear tell that Dan Bern has a onscreen cameo in the upcoming Dewey Cox film. He’s the organ player in Dewey’s band during the song “Beautiful Ride.” Look for him!
Also, there’s some Oscar talk regarding the soundtrack (which is hi-lar-ious, given that my wife and I just watched “For Your Consideration” last night). There [...]

“Divine And Conquer” is a 1995 album that was circulated by Sony/WORK as a promotional item. I remember people spotting a few copies here and there in record stores. Needless to say, it was pretty rare - until now! The album features one of my favorite songs from Dan: “One More Light”. I’m sure better [...]

I’m always looking for ways to connect my two favorite songwriters: Dan Bern and Robyn Hitchcock. Somewhere amongst my rock and roll papers I have a poster that my wife brought me home from a trip to France in 2003. The poster is for a Dan Bern and the IJBC gig, but features a Robyn [...]

BERN FOLLOWS HIS MUSE
(written by and apologies to Stan Hall, altered by JBJ)
Giving people exactly what they want is not Dan Bern’s style.
The Iowa-born, New Mexico-assimilated Independent Music Award-Winner could easily, and justifiably, rest on his laurels: dozens of classic songs spread over a 20-year career, a reputation as one of the greatest and most [...]

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the compact disc. I still remember my first: Love And Rockets - Earth Sun Moon, January 1988. What was yours??
In other news, there are two trailers out for the upcoming “Walk Hard”. Here below is one of them. I’m dying to know which of these songs Dan Bern wrote:
Lastly, [...]

- Jill Sobule released her new single “San Francisco” for free on new and professional site mydamnchannel.com. It is “backed” with a sparse version of old campfire favorite “Mom”, and did I mention it is free?? Jill mentions on her blog that she has never made a penny off her major label CD’s, so why [...]

Links from the Dan Bern front:
Past Belief is a new blog devoted to Dan’s music. E was able to attend multiple shows from the most recent tour, and has posted photos and some setlists from each. She also recorded portions of some of the gigs, and says she’ll try to post them soon. I hope [...]

Big ‘ole Dan Bern updates!
First of all, a plea for help: Two months ago, Dan Bern self-published two works of fiction: “The Glorious Return Of Ted The Cow”, and “Tales Of Toscana”. I was not able to buy these books before they sold out, and it will supposedly be awhile before they are reprinted, so [...]
